The 4/14 Window

The 10/40 Window Initiative in the 90’s led to much missions growth. A new initiative was developed at the beginning of this century. It’s called the 4/14 Window. The former initiative identified a geographical area of the world, between 10 and 40 degrees latitude that contained a high number of people that didn’t know Christ. Much work has been done by mission organizations to reach people in that window of opportunity.

The 4/14 Window identifies a demographic group of people between the ages of four and fourteen, the life stage when 85% of converts to Christ make their decision to follow him. Since children and youth are developmentally ripe for spiritual growth, the 4/14 Window movement looks to reach people at this age for the gospel using many different tools and approaches.

One of the tracks of the 4/14 Window Initiative is the Family Track, our primary focus is to help parents pass their faith on to their kids. The Family Challenge described in this web site is one way to encourage parents to be spiritual leaders in their homes. This web site doesn’t focus on one organization, but rather seeks to help parents know what resources are available from many organizations.

The Bible

The three parts of the Family Challenge are an application of Deuteronomy 6. Here’s an explanation of the biblical basis:

Note the similarities between the Old Testament believers about to enter the promised land and our generation today. They were committed to the Lord, building their families, and wanting to be used by God. At the same time, they were raising their children in a worldly environment and they wanted their children to follow the Lord. It’s within that context that God says the following:

1: You, as parents, follow me.
These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Deuteronomy 6:6. The first task of parents is to be growing disciples of Christ.

2: Notice in the next verses how the three parts of the Family Challenge are taught.

Build Relationship • Share Scripture • Practice Faith

These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates. —Deuteronomy 6:6-9

The Family Challenge is an application of God’s Word in practical terms. It’s through relationship that values are passed. It’s God’s design.

The Family Challenge

It's the purpose of this website to encourage parents to pass on the faith to their kids in two ways:

1. Gather statistics from various regions about who is taking the Family Challenge.
These statistics will be placed on a map to help others see that parents all over the world are committed to passing their faith to their kids.

2. Provide a place where parents and resource providers can recommend resources to aid parents as they pass the faith on to their kids.
As parents make suggestions of resources, others will be able to see what's out there. Resource providers also can present the tools they recommend for passing the faith to from parents to children.

Thank you for your participation in this website and its mission.
